This 8 day combined cycling and sailing holiday in the Aegean will introduce you to the magic of Greece's Cyclades Islands, both by land and by sea. As a cycling vacation, you'll experience the Greek islands of the Cyclades, their pristine natural beauty, crystal clear waters, and their Cycladic architecture. Out at sea, your sailing holiday will take you to Kythnos, Seriphos, Siphnos, Syros, Mykonos, Delos, Tinos and Kea.

Scenic coastline views, picturesque villages, beautiful beaches and high mountain ridges, as well as important archeological sites are all within pedaling distance. This combined holiday requires a basic fitness level as daily cycling route distances range from 20 - 40 km, with some uphill stretches included. Most of the roads are asphalted and rarely used.

When not biking, you'll be sailing the Cyclades in a twin masted motor yacht 102 ft long that features 10 cabins, a dining room and a spacious sun deck. The onboard cook will be preparing breakfast and one or two meals a day, while there is also ample time to try out Greek cuisine in local taverns. All cabins are air-conditioned and equipped with a double bed and a single bed. Each of the ship's cabins also have a private shower and toilet.

There is room for all guests in the spacious dining area to have their meals, relax and spend some time with new friends. Guests can also have their meals outside on the shaded rear deck. A spacious sun deck is also equipped with cozy mats, invites to have a sun bath and to relax.

Day 1

(Sat) Boarding in Athens (Piraeus) Individual journey to Athens airport and collective transfer to Marina Zeas, the yacht harbour of Piraeus close to Athens only 25 km (15 mi.) from Athens airport. Check-in from 2 p.m. on the Panagiota. Dinner on board.Overnight stay in Piraeus.

Day 2

(Sun) Kythnos (approx. 25 km / 15 mi.by bicycle) Early in the morning the boat takes you to Kythnos Island, which was famous for its cheese and honey since ancient times. The first cycling tour, which starts in the harbour of Merichas and first leads us to the capital Chora, offers many scenic views of the coastline. Chora is an appealing village, situated on a high plateau. Its angular alleys are decorated with painted flowers and geometric patterns. From there today’s cycle tour leads us to Driopida, a picturesque village. Afterwards we return to Merichas, where we can spend the evening in one of the cosy taverns.

Day 3

(Mon) Seriphos (approx. 35 km / 22 mi. by bicycle) In the morning the Panagiota takes us to Seriphos, a small island off the tourist track, with deep valleys, countless bays and coves and many beautiful sandy beaches. From the harbour town of Livadi we cycle along a serpentine road to the main town of Seriphos, whose cube form houses are nestled along a mountain ridge high above the sea. We continue on through untouched landscape to the Byzantine monastery of the Archangel Michael. We return to Livadi along a panoramic road on the East coast. In the afternoon the ship brings us to Siphnos, where we can relax on the beautiful beach. Overnight stay in Kamares on the island of Siphnos.

Day 4

(Tue) Siphnos (approx. 20 km / 12 mi. by bicycle) The island of Siphnos, which is famous for its ceramic artwork, is only inhabited away from the coast, because its coast drops mainly steeply into the sea. The cycling tour begins in the harbour of Kamares. The route leads through a green, hilly terraced landscape to the central highlands with the island’s capital Kastro, which is a defensive settlement built on a steep cliff face and has been a listed and protected town since 1975. In the afternoon the ship takes us to Syros, where we can round off the day in one of the numerous cafes on the spacious harbour promenade.

Day 5

(Wed) Syros and Mykonos (approx. 30 km / 19 mi. by bicycle) The town of Ermoupolis on Syros is the capital town of the Cyclades and offers an unforgettable view upon arrival. The town which is built on two hills is different from the other Cycladic towns. Pastel coloured houses, many of which have classical facades dominate the townscape. We cycle along the coast of Syros which is full of bays and coves along the entire southern half of the island to the beautiful beach of Galissas and then past the convent of Saint Barbara back to Ermoupolis. In the afternoon we continue by boat to Mykonos, where the picturesque main town with its famous windmills and its white cube form houses, invites visitors to stroll through it. With a bit of luck we may even see the mascot of Mykonos in the maze of laneways, the pelican Petros.

Day 6

(Thu) Delos and Tinos (approx. 25 km / 12 mi. by bicycle) In the morning we have the chance to visit the important ancient sites on the island of Delos, where according to Greek mythology the god Apollo and his twin sister Artemis were born. After lunch we cross over to Tinos. There we first visit the famous Evangelistria church in Tinos town. Today’s bike tour takes us along a high road to the mountain village of Tarambados, a village full of walled dove towers with their filigree architecture, which represent remnants from Venetian times. Overnight stay in Tinos town.

Day 7

(Fri) Kea (approx. 12 km / 8 mi. by bicycle) In the morning the ship takes us to Kea. The starting point for the tour of Kea, the most westerly inhabited Cyclades island, is the wonderful natural harbour of Korissia. From here we begin our cycle tour to the picturesque main town of Ioulis which is situated in the mountains and has the main attraction on the island: The smiling lion of Kea which was chiselled from stone in the 6th century B.C. Alternatively, there is also the option of an individual short bike tour to the white beach of Otzias, where the Mediterranean tempts you to a refreshing swim. In the afternoon last sail to Piraeus and overnight stay in Piraeus. The last evening aboard takes place traditionally and includes the communal dinner and a last get-together in a cosy atmosphere with crew and tour guides.

Day 8

(Sat) Disembarkation
Guests disembark after breakfast or guests may extend their stay in Athens by a week.

Alternative Tour into the Argosaronic Gulf

The Cycladic Islands are a relatively wind-prone region. As a rule, this causes only minor deviations from the sailing course. If weather conditions are, however, unfavourable, it can happen that the route will differ substantially from the original course. Our alternative tour will take you to the Argo-Saronic Gulf, one of the historically richest regions of Greece. You will sail between the Greek mainland and the Peloponnese and visit the islands of Aegina, Poros, Hydra, Spetses and the Methana peninsular. One highpoint of the trip is the visit to ancient Epidauros with the best-preserved theater in Greece.

Day 1

Athens (arrival) Check-in on the boat in Marina Zeas, the yacht harbour of Piraeus close to Athens starts at 2pm. Overnight in Piraeus.

Day 2

Poros Island (bicycle tour ca. 20 km/12,5 mi.) In the morning, sailing on the "Panagiota" to Poros town. In the afternoon, we bicycle from there to the 18th cent. monastery of Zoodochos Pigis. In antiquity, the island was dedicated to the sea god Poseidon. Next, we visit his sanctuary located high above the sea. Overnight in Poros town whose historical centre - dominated by its landmark, the blue clock-tower - is best explored on foot.

Day 3

Galatas - Ermioni (bicycle tour ca. 40 km/25 mi.) From Galatas, separated from the island of Poros by a strait of only 300m wide, we bicycle along the coastal road to Ermioni in the southern Argolid. At first, the route leads across a 300m high pass and then continues along the coast all the way to Ermioni, where we spend the night. The picturesque little town sitting on a spit of land has several pretty sandy beaches, an interesting market square and two harbours with many inviting cozy cafes and taverns.

Day 4

Porto Cheli and Spetses Island (bicycle tour ca. 15 km and 25 km/9 + 15 mi.) The short biking tour in the morning takes us along the extensive Kranidi bay from Ermioni to Porto Cheli, a lively harbour town. After lunch, we cross over to the island of Spetses. The afternoon bike trip takes us all around the green island. This route offers innumerable panoramic views onto the craggy coastline and the Peloponnese opposite. The town of Spetses, where we spend the night, is particularly worth seeing because of its many neo-classical manor houses and the black and white pebble mosaic pavements of town squares and alleys.

Day 5

Hydra Island and Methana peninsula (bicycle tour ca. 23 km/15 mi.) Early morning crossing to Hydra island whose homonymous main town rises like an amphitheatre around the harbour. The only transportation mode on Hydra is the donkey. Neither cars nor motorbikes disturb the peaceful island atmosphere. There are no roads, only paths connecting the various settlements. Following is the crossing to Poros at noon, the starting point of today's bike tour, which takes us to the peninsula of Methana. Methana is volcanic in origin and therefore geologically of great interest. Also famous are the medicinal thermal springs in the main town also called Methana, where we spend the night.

Day 6

Epidauros and the island of Aegina (bicycle tour ca. 35 km/23 mi.) In the morning crossing to Palaia Epidauros, the starting point for this day's biking tour. It leads us to the ancient healing centre of Epidauros, where the demi-god Asklepios was venerated and where the ailing pleaded for his help to get well. Here we visit the best-preserved theatre of Greece, and by dropping a coin you can convince yourself of the phenomenal acoustics. At noon your boat takes us to the island of Aegina, which is famous beyond the borders of Greece for its excellent pistachio nuts. In Aigina town there is enough time for a stroll through the lively alleys in the afternoon. Overnight stay in Aigina town.

Day 7

Aegina Island (bicycle tour ca. 35 km/23 mi.) The bicycle tour in the morning takes us high up past the large monastery of St. Nektarios to the sanctuary of the goddess Aphaia. The beautifully preserved temple, whose pediment sculpture can nowadays be admired in the Munich Glyptothek, sits magestically high above the blue sea. On the return trip we pass the Byznatine monastery town of Palaia Chora and cycle along the north coast to Aegina town, where the Panagiota awaits us for the last sail to Piraeus. The last evening aboard takes place traditionally and includes the customary dinner and a last get-together in a cosy atmosphere with crew and tour guides.

Day 8

Disembarkation After breakfast, check-out on the "Panagiota." You start on your individual return trip or extend your vacation for a few days in Athens.

Extend Your Stay

Would you like to be in vicinity for a few days before your boat- and bike trip or would you like to spend a few days in Greece after your trip?

We can recommend some accommodations in Athens or on Aegina Island to you. You can easily book them by yourself.

The 2004 Olympics brought about a very positive change to the face of the lively 5-million strong metropolis. Large sections of the inner city were transformed into pedestrian areas and a large archaeological park was created, that stretches from the Acropolis across ancient Agora to Kerameikos, the old potters’ and cemetery district. Enjoy an unforgettable stroll through the winding alleys of the Plaka, the charming Old Town district, where you should not only stop to admire the many different souvenirs available, but should also make yourself comfortable in one of the countless cafés.

The accommodation facilities we recommend are situated in the centre of Athens, allowing you to reach most of the tourist sights by foot.

Hotel Philippos The lovely, petite 3-star hotel "Philippos" is situated in the peaceful city district of Makriyanni, only a walk away from the Acropolis and the charming Old Town of Plaka. The beautiful, stylishly decorated rooms are equipped with a bathroom, air-conditioning unit, a telephone, TV and a mini-bar.

We will gladly book a double or single room including breakfast for you.

The prices are depending on the season and are valid per room, not per person:

May/June/September/October - Single room with breakfast: 90 euro - Double room with breakfast: 110 euro

Hotel Herodion The excellent 4-star hotel "Herodion" is situated just next to the newly built Acropolis museum, in the peaceful city district of Makriyanni, only a walk away from the Acropolis and the charming Old Town of Plaka. We will gladly book a double or single room including breakfast for you. The prices depend on the season and are valid per room, not per person.

April/July/August - Single room with breakfast: 105 euro - Double room with breakfast: 120 euro

May/June/September/October - Single room with breakfast: 130 euro - Double room with breakfast: 150 euro

Additional Nights on the Island of Aegina If the hubbub of the city does not agree with you and you prefer instead a few relaxing days on a Greek island, we can recommand the island of Aegina in the Argo-Saronic Gulf. From the mainland, Aegina is one of the best connected islands: from Athen's harbour, Piraeus, it can be reached in half an hour by highspeed ferry.

Aegina is known as the island of pistachio nuts but offers aside from culinary delights many other points of interest. You can visit, for example, the famous temple of Aphaia and the monastery of St.Nektarios. Beautiful sandy beaches and inviting tavernas guarantee rest and relaxation.

Hotel Rastoni in Aegina Town For accommodation on Aegina, we recommend the stylish appartment-hotel "Rastoni" - in the homonymous main town of the island - located near the ferry landing. Aegina town is a pretty place with a lively seaside promenade and delightful shops in crooked little alleys.

The hotel, run by the friendly and kind owner, Angela, offers 11 elegantly furnished, luxurious appartments, with bathroom, air-conditioning, TV and balcony. The generously laid-out and lovingly tended garden has many shady places that make breakfast outdoors pure pleasure. Thanks to its elevated location, the hotel offers an uncluttered panoramic view onto the sea and the large Apollon sanctuary.

The charge for a double room in the hotel "Rastoni" is about 80 Euro/night. In addition breakfast can be booked for 5 Euro per person and night. Single rooms can only be booked for the price of a double room.
