An exhilarating rafting and exploration holiday, rafting in some of the best rivers in the country, as well as exploring unknown but amazingly beautiful and untouched corners of central and northern Greece. It is a white water rafting and jeeping (a jeep for every two persons) wandering around some of the best that the country can offer. You will have the opportunity to experience the most spectacular mountainous regions, along with history and tradition of the unknown Greece. Something that you would definitely not expect to see in Europe any more…You will also be amazed, how pleasant early spring rafting can be!

Day 1

Transfert from the airport (preferably Makedonia airport in Thessaloniki), to Rapsani station or Larissa town train station. (Train direct, 360km from Athens, 150km from Thessaloniki). Settle in your hotel in Ambelakia Village above the Tempi valley, on the northern slopes of Mt. Kissavos (Ossa). You can also pick the jeeps at the airport and drive to your accommodation in Ambelakia. After settling in, you meet with your guides over the welcome meal and discus about what follows in the next few days.

Day 2

After a morning stroll in the historical and picturesque village of Ambelakia and a visit to the local museum, we depart for the nearby Pinios river, to raft in the "Vernezi" section. This part of the river flows through the foot-hills of lower Olympus, locally called Vernezi. It is a demanding rafting ride, one of the best in the country, of grade III and IV. Duration of descent: 2.00 hours. Picnic barbecue at our riverside base. Return to the hotel/pension for a well earned rest. Later in the evening we can sample local delicacies and some good wine (the place is famous for its good wine), at one of the village’s traditional Greek restaurants.

Day 3

Today, we have an early start. Load up our jeeps and travel towards Grevena, in south west Macedonia, via Trikala. On our way, we come across the Meteora famous rocks, where we stop for a short visit to the impressive conglomerate sand-stone towers and the monasteries nestled on them. The rocks are a rock-climbers paradise, as well as a religious stronghold and obviously an amazing geological formation, very much worth seeing. In less than an hour after Meteora, we arrive at the Venetikos river, where our rafts will be waiting for us to start our descent. A very popular and beautiful river of grade II and III. Duration of descent: min. 2.30 hours. Afternoon picnic lunch at the finishing point by the river, after which, we go to our hotel in Grevena, for a good rest, sample the night life of town, and of course the evening meal.

Day 4

Aliakmonas River is our today’s "play-ground". It is one of the biggest rivers in Greece. The river section we are rafting in runs through wild terrain and plenty of grade III and IV rapids. A very beautiful and wild river indeed and a "must" for every rafter. Duration of descent: 2.30 - 3.00 hours. There will definitely be a lot to talk about this rafting day over the picnic lunch!

We say good-by to Grevena region, as we move south towards Kalampaka and the Aspropotamos (Aheloos) river region in the heart of the central Pindus range. We stay in a traditional hotel in the Aspropotamos valley, amongst high mountains at the very starting point of the river.

Day 5

Today we continue to move south through the Pindus mountains, rafting down Aspropotamos (the northern section of Acheloos River), in an amazingly beautiful mountainous terrain.

High summits tower above our heads all the way along. A wonderful rafting ride of II and III grade in one of the most beautiful mountain rivers of Greece. We finish at Mesohora dam after 4.00 hours of wonderful rafting! The jeep drivers are transferred in our escort vehicle back to the starting point to pick up the jeeps. Then we continue the journey to the west, over high passes, mountain villages and breathtaking views. Our destination is Arachthos river, which flows from the north to the south, in parallel with Aspropotamos to the west. We have crossed over from Thessaly to Epirus to reach the river at the historical, stone built Plaka bridge. Here we spend the night in a cozy pension at the riverside.

Day 6

After a slow start and breakfast, we move by the mini bus to the starting point of today’s rafting adventure. We raft in the most exhilarating mountain rivers of northern Greece, starting in the Calaritikos river and then in the most beautiful section of Arachthos. Calaritikos offers fast flow with continuous III and IV rapids through high mountains, meeting Arachthos after 1.30’ hours of wonderful rafting. As we enter Arachthos, we raft through a narrow canyon with spectacular rock formations and waterfalls on both sides. This section offers the most amazing river landscape in the country. Duration of descent in Arachthos: 2.00 hours, grade III and IV. After the picnic lunch, we head towards Ioannina, the historical capital of Epirus, where we will spend the night in a hotel at the lakeside.

Day 7

Visit the historical town center and the fortressed old town with Ali Pasha’s residence and its mosques and have short boat trip to the little island and picturesque village of Ioannina lake. In the afternoon, we start the return trip to Larissa, stopping on the way at the mountain citadel of Metsovo, a place with a long mountain craft and cultural tradition, for our lunch. In the evening we arrive in Larisa, where we spend our last night.
