Polish your sailing skills or spend quality time with family, friends or coworkers in this week-long sailing holiday in the Ionian Sea, in western Greece, aboard a gorgeous yacht.

You can take two different routes between the islands of Corfu, Paxos, Anti Paxos and the Greek mainland. Sailing around 15 sea miles a day, you'll have enough time to disembark and explore Ionian island's picturesque ports and Greek villages, hospitable people and fine Greek cuisine.

Yoga lovers will also be glad to know that a week-long yoga program is also available, while trekkers can also take part in morning trekking excursions.

In their 25th year of running the flotillas from the island of Corfu, your operators are the kind of people you want to plan and guide you while on your sailing or family holiday. You'll get to know them better during your lingering Greek dinners, over conversations spanning long into the night.

There are a few special weeks on offer. You can find more detailed information about each week in the More section. Here is the 2014 schedule. Spoilt for choice, we know...

  • 19/4 Greek Easter flotilla with Peter and Marjan.
  • 26/4 Family flotilla week with Marjan.
  • 3/5 Flotilla and yoga with Peter
  • 10/5 Flotilla and yoga
  • 17/5 Bareboat week
  • 24/5-7/6 Special two-week flotilla to Dhiaponti Islands and around Corfu with Peter
  • 7/6-12/7 Week flotilla’s Corfu with Peter
  • 12/7, 27/7 & 9/8 Special two-week family flotilla’s with Marjan
  • 30/8-13/9 One way flotilla Corfu to Lefkas with Peter and Marjan
  • 13/9-End of season Week flotilla Lefkas with Peter and Marjan

To sail the whole area you need at least 2 weeks. The lead crew will make sure the route suits all participants of the flotilla. They will take into account which harbour are already visited, the weatherforecast, sailing experience, other flotilla’s etc.

The daily distances are not too long (about 10 till 15 Nautical miles a day). With an avarage of 4 to 5 knots this means there is time enough to anchor in a beautifull bay underway, to swim, sunbathe, read, or to be in the next port early to have time for a stroll land inwards.

Who wants to sail more can always take the long route. There is enough to see and explore in this beautiful cruising area. Ask the lead crew for tips.

An example of a 2 different 1-week routes could be:

  • Day 1: embark in Gouvia Marina
  • Day 2: Petriti
  • Day 3: Gaios
  • Day 4: Mongonissi
  • Day 5: Mourtos
  • Day 6: Sayiadha
  • Day 7: Gouvia Marina or Ag. Stefanos
  • Day 8: Change over day - Agni
  • Day 9: Platarias
  • Day 10: Zavia bay
  • Day 11: Parga
  • Day 12: Lakka
  • Day 13: Kalamas (BBQ)
  • Day 14: Gouvia Marina

The advantage of the 2 week family flotilla's is that we don't need to go back to the marina because the same group will be for 2 weeks together, so the route is more relaxed and children don't have to say goodbye to their new friends already after 1 week

How to get to Corfu?

There are several ways to travel to Corfu. With own transport (car) and ferry, train or flying. It is best to book your flight yourself.

The first day

The yachts are moored up at dock B in Gouvia Marina. The first day everybody arrives at different times. The crew is busy cleaning and technically checking the boats. People who arrive early can enjoy the facilities of the marina. There are different bars, restaurants, swimming pool etc. Or go shopping. Around 15.00 hour, when everything is ready the new guests may embark.

Once on board you first check the inventory. To know exactly where everything is and find convenient storage space for your own stuff. From 18:00 hours, the flotilla crew will come along for the check-in. They will explain the yacht, ask if you found everything, etc.

The next morning at 10.00 o’clock is the first group briefing. Here we pay always extra attention to maneuvering and anchoring the way they do that in Greece. After the briefing, you are free to sail.

What should I bring?

Not to much. In summer you live in your swimwear. Sunhat, sunglasses, thin clothing to protect for the sun (daytime) or mosquitoes (evening), sandals and your walking shoes if you like hiking. Musical instruments are always welcome at the BBQ campfire :-) The ships are fully equipped. Do not take with you large hard suitcases and shoes with black issuing soles.

How is the weather

On and around the Ionian Sea the climate is mild. You could even call it pleasantly subtropical. Early in the year the sea is pleasantly warm. This remains so until late in the autumn.

Throughout the sailing season, from April to October, outside temperatures of 25 to 30 degrees are to be expected. Only at the beginning and the end of the season you will need a sweater in the evenings. In the spring and autumn there may be some showers. Lightweight rain gear is recommended. There is usually a quiet Northwest breeze around 4 bft in the afternoons.

Can I combine my holiday & stay longer in Corfu?

If you want to combine the sailing holiday with a few days or a week on Corfu, or a trek on the mainland, we can give you great tips. Below you can find our partnering accommodation on Corfu island. You can book them through us, in combination with a sailing holiday and/or car rental.

Casa Lucia Cosy little cottages in a beautiful garden. Good atmosphere. Good base to go for a walk. Very central on the island, about 5 km. from the marina. Yoga en tai chi lessons are regularly organised and also various workshops. Horseriding and beaches nearby.

Agrotourism in the south of Corfu , near the Korisson lake on the westcoast in the middle of nature. There are 2 luxurious villa’s for rent at the biological farm and restaurant Bioporos. You will enjoy the beautiful views of the lake and the sea. This an ideal walking area in the non-touristic part off Corfu. The friendly owners, Kostas and Agathi love to show you the Greek traditional ways of living off grid. They grow their own vegetables and make their own olive oil. Hold bees, chicken and other farm animals and cook the most fantastic meals every day.

For a visit to the Greek mainland we highly recommend the Zagoria area. Hiking, overwhelming nature and the deepest gorge in the world. Best place to stay is hotel “Porfyron”. Stylish rooms, wonderful food and hospitality from Yannis and Rita. From here you can also make daytrips to Dodoni, Meteora or Ioaninna.

The yachts

You will have a boat that is easy to navigate. Comfortable. Seaworthy. Easy to handle. With enough space for two, four or even seven people.

Aloa 27DS “Peta”

The Aloa 27DS is a smooth sailing, seaworthy saloon yacht. Ideal for small crews and less experienced sailors. And economic in price. It carries 37 square meter sail, divided into an easy to reef mainsail and a furling genoa. In the front a double cabin. In the saloon sleeping space for another two adults and a child although our advise for this yacht is a maximum of 4 persons. Galley, kitchen equipment, electric fridge, shore electricity, depth meter, log, radio, separate toilet with basin, compass, maritime phone with GPS, complete set of safety equipment and an 18 HP diesel motor, bimini sunshade, swimming steps, electric anchor windlass, outside shower and CD player. Everything is included.

Hurley 800-ISA “Tara”

The Hurley is a stable yacht. It is more or less the same size as the Aloa. But the ISA-construction is unique. The Hurley 800-ISA has been especially designed for sailing the Ionian Sea. This yacht was made to order in 1999 by the shipyard “Jachtbouw Twente” in accordance with Marjan and Peter’s own specifications. Two spacious double berths, a beautifully finished saloon, a large modern galley, a diesel motor (18 HP), electric anchor windlass, outside shower and CD player plus all the facilities the Aloa 27E offers. Excellent choice for a couple.

Friendship 33 “Zeehond”

A fast sailing yacht with modern lines. Length: 10.25 meters. Width: 3.30 meters. Sail: 51 square meters, 7/8 rigging which you operate from the cockpit. It has room for seven people: Two cabins with each a double bed. In the saloon one double bed and a single. A separate toilet and wash facilities. A well equipped galley with fridge and oven. CD player, navtex, automatic steering, joystick, compass, maritime phone, log, depth meter, GPS, electric anchor windlass, bimini sunshade, cockpit table, life raft, Volvo Penta diesel motor (18 HP) ….. The Friendship 33 has been designed for sailing with a larger family or group. Bigger than the Aloa it needs more experience of at least 2 persons.

Dufour 36 “Free Life”

Fine sailing yacht with a cosy classic appearance. 3 cabins. Mainsail with lazy jacks. Furling genoa. Steering Wheel. Complete navigation instruments and safety equipment. Indoor and outdoor shower with hot water. Minimum 2 persons with sailing experience.

Bavaria 41 “Emil”

Pleasantly sailing spacious yacht, suitable for max 6 persons. 3 cabins. Furling main and genoa. Steering Wheel. 2 heads. All comfort and equipment has been fitted.

Bavaria 44 “Annabel”

The biggest ship off the fleet. 3 spacious cabines, 2 heads and a lot off livingspace. Fully equipped and a great sailing yacht.

Bare boat

The more experienced sailor may want a more individual adventure. He or she can crew bare boat. Alone with boat, wind, water, and in an excellent sailing area.

You can travel a long distance in the Ionian Sea. You just chart your own course for a couple of weeks. The yacht has all the facilities you need. You can anchor where and when you want. You know that, if necessary, the leader of the flotilla still can advise and assist you

Flotilla Sailing

When you are not certain about your sailing experience, or you just love the company of other yachts, you choose to join the flotilla.

Freedom and helpfulness are of paramount importance within the flotilla. There are no obligations to the group. Whoever likes to be sociable is always welcome to join the group meal or group activities.

Because of the help in finding your route and a good mooring for the night also starting sea-sailors will feel relaxed and safe in this flotilla. Also tips where to wine and dine are much appreciated.

We really enjoyed our flotilla sailing with you all. It was great having an expert on all the good restaurants that we visited, especially on the fish dishes. We arrived home last weekend to rain and cold wind, quite a contrast to what we were used to in Corfu. Thanks again for the great holiday and all your help during the sailing. Best of luck in the future. John, Trish & Maria – 2006
