Travel by bike & boat in this 8 day combination cycling holiday and vacation aboard a comfortable ship. Sail & Bike tours are perfect for travelers who like to include a variety of activities in their holiday. You'll cycle during the day and explore beautiful areas while sailing comfortably. Do as much or as little as you like: relax and enjoy the journey or lend a hand on deck with sailing and navigating: sailing experience isn't necessary!
During the cycling and sailing tour, you'll set off to the Northern part of Lake Ijsselmeer and the Frisian Sea aboard the most luxurious sailing ships. Highlights include visits to the beautiful North Sea islands of Texel, Vlieland and Terschelling, small villages and long sandy beaches. The Frisian Islands and the coasts of North-Holland and Friesland are a true paradise for cyclists.
The mudflats of the Frisian Sea are a natural area along the coast of the North Sea which is unique throughout the whole world. A world with two faces—sand and water dominate during the shift from low to high tide. Smaller and larger islands line up like pearls on a chain and protect the shoals of the mudflats.
Your cycling and sailing tour of the Frisian Islands is one of pure nature: sea, wind and sun. Expect an adventurous tour with a variety of activities, nature and experiences.

Sail & Bike on the Frisian Sea and Island Hopping
Day 1 (Saturday):
Arrival and embarkation in Enkhuizen
Individual arrival and embarkation starts at 4PM near the lovely centre of Enkhuizen, which is located just a stones throw away from the railway station. A session led by the skipper will educate you on important aspects of the journey, the ship and about important precautionary measures on-board. In the evening, you can stroll through the historical centre of Enkhuizen and then, spend the night onboard in Enkhuizen.
Day 2 (Sunday):
Enkhuizen - Medemblik - Den Oever bike tour (40 km/24 miles)
Get ready because today, the ship sails from Enkhuizen to Den Oever. You have the option to stay on board and sail over the IJsselmeer or to grab your bike and start your first cycling expedition along IJsselmeer coast across the stunning polder-landscape via Medemblik up to Den Oever with its fishing harbour. If weather permits, the ship will sail across the Wadden Sea to the Island of Texel in the evening.
Day 3 (Monday):
Texel round tour from Oudeschild (1-65 km/1-40 miles)
Sweeping vistas and picturesque villages will welcome you as you set foot in the island of Texel. You can enjoy a round-trip cycling tour on the largest of the Dutch North Sea islands. Be sure to try out the well signposted Thijsse-route (about 40 km/24 miles) and visit some villages and the seal sanctuary station EcoMare. They have lovely traditional beer brewery in the harbour of Oudeschild. These are must-visits.
Day 4 (Tuesday):
Island of Texel - island of Terschelling, sailing day (5 - 6 hrs)
When tide and the weather are good, the ship will sail to the island of Terschelling. You will manoeuvre through the sandbanks of the Wadden Sea. If luck is on your side, you will see seals lying to rest on a sandbar. In the afternoon, the ship will continue to sail until it reaches Terschelling.
Day 5 (Wednesday):
Terschelling: Biking tour (1-40 km/1-24 miles)
Terschelling is an adventure-filled island. It has tons of great things in store – the nature and culture, 70 km cycling tracks and 4 beautiful villages. West-Terschelling is the largest village on the island. It boasts quaint shops and pubs. The island’s icon can be seen from the distance: the 400-heath land captivates with its mud, beaches and dunes. You might even spot a number of ducks, black-winged stilts and large colonies of spoonbills and great black-backed gulls. This day promises to quench your thirst for excitement.
Day 6 (Thursday):
Island of Terschelling - island of Vlieland or (alternative) Southwest coast of the Province of Friesland
Today, the ship will try to reach the island of Vlieland. Weather and tide will again play vital roles for this one to push through. This is the smallest island that nestles one village and about 1,100 islanders. Vlieland is known for its car-free milieu and is an excellent location for biking trips. The beach is just 100 meters away from the harbor. From the highest point of the island, you will be given the best seat to admire the breathtaking views of other islands, the North Sea and the mudflats.
If conditions will not allow sailing to Vlieland, there is an alternative – a sailing trip to the southwestern portion of the Province of Friesland with a round-trip cycling tour.
Day 7 (Friday):
Vlieland or Province of Friesland
Today you sail back to Enkhuizen.
Day 8 (Saturday):
End of the tour in Enkhuizen

Important things to remember:
A Sail & Bike tour is an adventure without a program.
The one thing that needs to be fixed is the departure and arrival at Enkhuizen. As mentioned a few times in the programme, sailing routes are highly dependent on weather, wind and tide. There are several alternatives prepared, though. The skipper is the one responsible for providing schedule and discussing possibilities and routes. Together with his crew, the skipper will do everything he can to stay faithful with the programme, so you can enjoy a fascinating week with a variety of activities, nature and cultural explorations. Having said all of these, you also need to flexible with changes and taking the alternative routes.
Enjoy and relax!
All the elements will cooperate to bring you nothing but the best holiday ever. A good amount of your time will be spent sailing and admiring wonders of nature. You must also take note that distances are "approximate distances" of recommended bike tours. When a guest opts out of cycling tour, he or she can skip the bike tour and relax on board whilst cruising to the next harbour.

CYCLING TOURS IN HOLLAND: THE "CYCLE JUNCTION NETWORK"
The “Cycle Junction Network” is a grid of through cycle routes throughout the Netherlands, with length totaling to more than 4,500 km. A cycle junction is a numbered intersection that is part of a regional cycle route network. Each junction is allotted a number and information panel where the distance to the next junction is displayed. The routes between two junctions are clearly marked in two directions in white and green. The information panel allows you to familiarize yourself and make the decision to extend or shorten the route to your destination, depending on your discretion. In the Netherlands and Flanders, the daily bike tour descriptions are taken from this Cycle Junction Network information panel. All junctions are marked on our maps our guests use for the daily bike tours. The tour guide will be thoroughly explaining the routes and safety precautions to take. The more exciting part is that there is going to be some sort of assessment of your performance, highlights and any detours. The cycle Junction Network is explained on the tour operator’s website in a short video.
